ABOUT THE ARTIST
Winner of the third prize of American Art Awards in the category of Pop Art for Peace Dancers.
Born in Cuba, Juan-Manuel grew up and spent a large portion of his life in New York City. Following graduation from CCNY and The Fashion Institute of Technology and while working as a designer in the fashion industry he taught design at F.I.T. New York, Miami Dade College, Fine Arts College, Design and Architecture, Florida, and F.I.D.M., San Francisco.
His extensive travels throughout Europe, the Middle East, India, and Asia have had a major influence on his artistic sensibilities.
Continuing his art, he was an Artist in Residence for the Unified School District of Palm Springs, taught acrylic painting at the Mizell Senior Center, mentored students at Palm Springs High School, and volunteered for Desert AIDS Project. He was the Founder of "Art on the Streets." The purpose of "Art on the Streets" was to bind together the expansive artist community throughout the Coachella Valley, bring public awareness of the existing creative force and to use the large active artist community to play a mayor role in bringing cultural tourism to the Coachella Valley.
After 10 years in Palm Springs, CA the studio was moved to the Manzano Mountains in New Mexico. In the fall of 2019 he taught in the Art After School Program at Mountainair Elementary School and volunteered one day a week for two years at the Manzano Mountain Art Council.
At the moment he is working on a new series entitled "On The Road Again."
