The Soft Body Collection, 2022
High-fired stoneware with variations in glaze, fired in both gas reduction and oxidation atmospheres.
These forms originated from the basic desire to make visible the process of throwing on a potter’s wheel. The undulation reflects the need to stretch and compress the material, creating interior and exterior spaces with an application or release of pressure. The throw lines too are emphasized, the traces of fingertips and hands are intentionally unsmoothed.
During the firing process, the curves interact with the path of the flame to create curious moments on their surfaces, colors changing with differences in kilns and atmospheres. These vessels are each an individual object while also being an amalgamation of global ceramic technological processes.
Soft Body forms are all created using the same amount of clay; some are wider and shorter and others are taller and more narrow.
Priced individually.
Sizes range between 3.5-5" Dia. and 4.5-8"H
